Workday Student Program Update – January 2026

Happy New Year, colleagues! As we begin 2026, the Workday Student program is launching our Spring 2026 design activities where decisions continue to take shape and campus readiness ramps up.

We are excited to continue to work with our Subject Matter Experts across Central Units, Schools, Colleges, and Programs to help ensure that Workday Student will address the broad and varying needs of our campus constituents.

As we head into a new year, we wanted to take a few moments to recap what we’ve accomplished so far and where we expect to focus over the next few months.

What did we accomplish during 2025? Interested in learning more about program and design activities from 2025? Check out our Spring 2025 and Fall 2025 Town Hall recordings.

What are we focused on during Spring 2026? During Spring 2026 the team will continue to engage in design activities as we enter the third of five planned design cycles. We will focus on high-impact improvements that touch nearly every part of the student experience—from course scheduling and advising to financial aid, records, and graduate processes, including:

Academic Experience & Course Management

  • Course scheduling and registration: Course equivalencies and section level prerequisites to support students getting access to the classes they need and for departments planning for course section demand.
  • Course catalog: Standardizing crosslists, tags, and meeting patterns to create consistency across all academic units.

Academic Advising & Degree Programs

  • Advisor Assignments: Advisor assignment tools will give students clearer visibility into who supports their academic path.
  • Degree Planning: Significant configuration work is underway to make program requirements easier to navigate and monitor.

Program of Study & Transfer Credit

  • Program of Study Declaration: Workflows will simplify program changes, making it easier for students to update their academic path.
  • Transfer Credit Evaluation: Tools are being designed to help review, assign, and post transfer equivalencies more efficiently and consistently across UMD.

Why are we excited about these design activities? New design elements and workflows will support clearer processes, fewer manual hand-offs, and provide better visibility into requirements, progress, and needed actions to support an enhanced student and faculty experience.
